Chepstow Piano Academy

Yvonne can trace her pedigree as a pianist, via her first teacher, Dorothy Millard, to Sergei Rachmaninov. Her teacher during her time as a junior scholar at the Royal College of Music was Aida Lovell, a great friend of Alicia de Larrocha, the world-renowned exponent of Spanish music. Aida Lovell introduced Yvonne to the music of Albeniz, Granados and Villa-Lobos, giving her many valuable insights into the interpretation and technique required for playing Spanish piano pieces.

Yvonne has a thriving private practice in the Chepstow area. She has over 25 years' experience of teaching the piano. She has a pupil-centred approach spanning all ages and abilities, from beginners to diploma level and regularly enters her pupils for ABRSM exams and the annual European Piano Teachers' Association UK competition. In fact one of Yvonne's pupils won the final of the intermediate final of EPTA UK held in Cardiff last year.

Yvonne invites pupils to perform and compete at festivals like the Bristol Festival of Music, Speech and Dance and the South Glamorgan Festival for Young Musicians.

The emphasis is on performance so twice a year Yvonne gives her pupils the opportunity to perform their favourite pieces at her Tea and Cake concert held at the Drill Hall in Chepstow.

It's a fun afternoon for pupils, families and friends with certificates for all and medals and trophies for the most outstanding performances.

Although Yvonne normally has a waiting list older pupils tend to move on at the end of the academic year so do contact her for more details at: info@yvonnelewispiano.co.uk

Yvonne has now fused her years of piano teaching with her interest in the jazz idiom. She recognises the need for excellent early foundations and her series 'Bits and Pieces' does exactly that.

She also recognises the need to explore different styles of pieces in between exams. Yvonne has achieved this with her collection of carefully graded piano compositions.
